I started feeling sick, thinking negative things, "what is this crazy religion, so filled with these details and rules?" Please, may God forgive me. Very arrogant, yes. Bawa: The intention behind the prayer was to obey Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen. Of course, I don't always do that, like with last night, when it felt against my conscience. But to take the time from my day to bow down and get up and repeat these words I've learned, it seems to bring peace to Abu Talib and my mom, and I don't object, even tho whatever lives in me usually doesn't feel like doing it, we've seen that it is good that you told me to do it. Bawa: Yes there are still many desires. Even tho I'm never truly hungry, the desire for food is still there, tho not as strong as it used to be. The desire for one woman in particular is still there, and when I see her if I don't say Bawa or Jesus over and over again it is difficult to not think about her in a sexual way. This woman is married, so there is no doubt it is wrong of course, but the desire is still there. Al-hamdu Lillah. There is also the desire to be helpful, to feel useful by cleaning or helping others or doing other "heroic acts," as you said. This must also be lack of faith? Yes, some of these lives in me still want to play music and tour, but they are weaker now. We were offered a show in December and I haven't responded. If Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen says we should do it, we'll do it, and if he says we shouldn't, we won't. And certainly I want to have Sarah come back to Mike and not get a divorce. Astaghfirulah Azim Bawa: Not too many fears other than the big one, the fear of hell I keep struggling with. Everything else I'm sometimes afraid of (failure in life, worthlessness, physical suffering, wasting my time, loneliness, death of my family) isn't so bad, because all that would only be temporary. Bawa: Looking at my relationships at the moment, who is there who is my friend? Who is there who is not happy with me when I act the way they want me to act and upset with me when I don't? Who is there who truly understands me? And who do I understand? And who in this world do I care about other than me? Nobody. Bawa: What can be said of my qualities? Certainly, remember much of what Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen has said, would it not be met with disapproval to say anything other than "My qualities are those of Satan. Arrogance, pride, judgment, lust, vengeance, falsehood, cleverness, laziness, selfishness..." This is fine to say, but not entirely honest. There is another feeling, the feeling of contentment, peace, gratitude, forgiveness, that sometimes comes. But what is that? Is that still the Satan, tricking me into thinking "I" can experience something of God's qualities? When I feel forgiveness and love toward Sarah, when the sense comes that she is my own life, that she literally is me, what's going on? Bawa: My actions...like most folks of course I'd like to be good. But if every look is a sin, if every thought is sin, every taste, everything I listen to is a sin, I guess everything I do is evil. I started feeling sick, thinking negative things, "what is this crazy religion, so filled with these details and rules?" Please, may God forgive me. Very arrogant, yes. Bawa: The intention behind the prayer was to obey Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen. Of course, I don't always do that, like with last night, when it felt against my conscience. But to take the time from my day to bow down and get up and repeat these words I've learned, it seems to bring peace to Abu Talib and my mom, and I don't object, even tho whatever lives in me usually doesn't feel like doing it, we've seen that it is good that you told me to do it. Bawa: Yes there are still many desires. Even tho I'm never truly hungry, the desire for food is still there, tho not as strong as it used to be. The desire for one woman in particular is still there, and when I see her if I don't say Bawa or Jesus over and over again it is difficult to not think about her in a sexual way. This woman is married, so there is no doubt it is wrong of course, but the desire is still there. Al-hamdu Lillah. There is also the desire to be helpful, to feel useful by cleaning or helping others or doing other "heroic acts," as you said. This must also be lack of faith? Yes, some of these lives in me still want to play music and tour, but they are weaker now. We were offered a show in December and I haven't responded. If Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen says we should do it, we'll do it, and if he says we shouldn't, we won't. And certainly I want to have Sarah come back to Mike and not get a divorce. Astaghfirulah Azim Bawa: Not too many fears other than the big one, the fear of hell I keep struggling with. Everything else I'm sometimes afraid of (failure in life, worthlessness, physical suffering, wasting my time, loneliness, death of my family) isn't so bad, because all that would only be temporary. Bawa: Looking at my relationships at the moment, who is there who is my friend? Who is there who is not happy with me when I act the way they want me to act and upset with me when I don't? Who is there who truly understands me? And who do I understand? And who in this world do I care about other than me? Nobody. Bawa: What can be said of my qualities? Certainly, remember much of what Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen has said, would it not be met with disapproval to say anything other than "My qualities are those of Satan. Arrogance, pride, judgment, lust, vengeance, falsehood, cleverness, laziness, selfishness..." This is fine to say, but not entirely honest. There is another feeling, the feeling of contentment, peace, gratitude, forgiveness, that sometimes comes. But what is that? Is that still the Satan, tricking me into thinking "I" can experience something of God's qualities? When I feel forgiveness and love toward Sarah, when the sense comes that she is my own life, that she literally is me, what's going on? Bawa: My actions...like most folks of course I'd like to be good. But if every look is a sin, if every thought is sin, every taste, everything I listen to is a sin, I guess everything I do is evil. If it is true that "nothing happens the way the mind intends, everything happens the way God intends," as You told us while you were living in the world, and "it is all perfect," (and this has to be true), there truly can be "no bad guys," and even those who seem like bad guys are only playing their part, all with God's permission. So certainly, whether Aaron has doubts or fears or desires or thoughts or judgements or lust or arrogance, this is nothing to worry about. In fact, it is only a reason to say, Al-hamdu Lillah, truly. Bawa: Aaron certainly does have these things, and they are very valuable in God's hands, are they not? If we hand them to God, that is, come to God as we actually are (as selfishness, as darkness, with nothing good to offer, with no accomplishments, with no "heroic acts," with no righteousness, with no understanding), not as we would like to think of ourselves (good person) and in this way "do business with God," as Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen has trained us to do, that will be good. For as "you" taught us while "you" were living in the world, "the most important thing for a disciple to know is his current station." Bawa: As for this other matter, that of whether the form we see of Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen now (Louie Beutler) is the example we have of the contrast to our darkness...whether everyone else, all your other children, are his darkness and this "Physical Shaikh" is our light, our fire, the Word of God for our age and for all life...ah my Bawa, my Father, this is hard to believe. You know my heart, do you not? You see all that is hidden, do you not? You see that Aaron certainly doesn't know what to make of this Lou Beutler looking Character who seems to be saying he's in the state of Jesus. Is he totally crazy? But is he my own life in any way that the rest of your children are not also my own life? Is he Jesus in any way that everyone is not Jesus?
